Self-care

Self care is the deliberate act of engaging in activities that nourish you at all levels of being. Self care implies that you take responsibility for meeting your mental, emotional, physical and spiritual needs. It means giving every area of your life the attention it deserves. If you don’t take care of yourself, it is highly unlike that someone can do this for you. Taking care of your newborn also includes taking care of yourself.


Our global culture of frenzied activity demands that we work harder, faster and for longer, in order to accomplish more in less time. We are stressed, fatigued and desperate for an opportunity for deeper relaxation as we struggle to cope with the challenges of daily life. Our energy becomes depleted, and often we do not notice how unhappy we are. The adage, “you cannot pour from an empty cup”, validates the importance of replenishing your vitality by restoring your well-being. Ignoring your needs is self-sacrifice, and this is not a sustainable way to live a balanced, healthy, and fulfilled life.


With self-care you take responsibility for your well-being before exhaustion, stress and illness can take hold of you. You recognize that to maintain a life of vitality and balance, you should consider stepping away from experiences and situations that deplete your energy. It is a radical act to step away from a demanding world that does not easily embrace time to switch off. It is important to show yourself some unconditional love, and make choices that make your life purposeful and meaningful.
