In our daily lives, we are dependent on countless beings to support us – firemen, trash collectors, nurses, farmers, builders, truck drivers, puppies, trees, cattle, bees … our life is not possible without this support. We are deeply interconnected. Our commercial success has made us believe that we do not require anyone else to thrive. You may feel very independent as you tap away on the keyboard of your computer, or you ride in your own car to your own home, but all of this was not possible by you alone. Regardless of our differences, no life is spent alone.
We feel isolated, and we have lost our sense of belonging. We have lost our sense our meaning. We have forgotten to smile, to be thankful and remember those who make our lives possible. Yet we feel elevated by recognizing and harvesting the richness of each day. I invite you to consciously express more gratitude every day.
At the end of each day, close your eyes and take a moment to remember all the pleasant experiences and people of the day. Give thanks for the way they may have touched you today. Allow all the images of these pleasant experiences to rise and fade away until you feel complete. Let these experiences warm, soften and open your heart. Experience the self-nourishing acknowledgement of each of the beings that supported you today. Life nourishes us in endless ways when we make time to appreciate the small things that deepen, enrich, and enhance our lives.
“Everything is determined, every beginning and ending, by forces over which we have no control. It is determined for the insect, as well as for the star. Human beings, vegetables, or cosmic dust, we all dance to a mysterious tune, intoned in the distance by an invisible piper.
“Everything is energy and that is all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics.”
—Albert Einstein
